Kevin Beattie joined Rensselaer in August 1998.  His responsibilities as associate athletic director for communications and compliance include generating and handling publicity, media and public relations for Rensselaer's 23 varsity athletics teams, including its Division I men's and women's ice hockey teams.

He also writes, edits and designs athletic department press releases and publications, including media guides, programs and brochures; maintains the department's Web page; serves as a liaison with local, regional and national media; prepares, edits and distributes game-day materials; compiles, maintains and distributes statistics; researches, purchases and writes newspaper, television and radio advertisements for the department; nominates student-athletes, coaches and staff members for various honors and awards; and manages and organizes the sports information staff, including a full-time assistant, work-study students and game-day personnel.

Beattie, who served as RPI's acting athletic director in 2007-08, also has been the director of media relations for numerous NCAA Division I Men's Hockey Championships at the Times Union Center, including the 2001 Frozen Four. He is also Rensselaer's Athletics Hall of Fame selection committee chair, serving as a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America  (CoSIDA), serving as a member of the Academic All-America Committee, as well as ECAC-SIDA, for which he is a frequent panelist at educational workshops.

He also has served on numerous committees at Rensselaer, including the search for current head men's hockey coach Seth Appert, as well as the Athletics Task Force for Marketing and Promotion Sub-Committee.  He also has worked on various projects with ECAC Hockey.

Prior to his tenure at Rensselaer, Beattie was the director of communications for the Albany River Rats for four years, including the 1994-95 season when the team won the Calder Cup.  In that role he was the main liaison between the organization and the media as well as the New Jersey Devils' and American Hockey League's communications departments.

Beattie was responsible for writing and disseminating press releases; writing, editing and producing all team publications; contacting media for feature stories and arranging player interviews; performing promotional and radio interviews; providing color commentary on radio broadcasts; and coordinating internships and evaluating students' performances.  He was also an account executive charged with selling corporate sponsorships, season tickets and group ticket packages.

Beattie was Rensselaer's 2000 Person of the Year, the first-ever selected by the readers and staff of The Polytechnic, Rensselaer's student-newspaper and a recipient of the 2004 Mark of Excellence Award from American Marketing Association Capital Region Chapter.

A native of Wynantskill, N.Y., Beattie earned a Master of Business Administration from Rensselaer's prestigious Lally School of Management & Technology in 2005.  He holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from Oneonta State.

Beattie and his wife, Stacey, reside in Niskayuna with their two young children, Nolan and Ella.
